WEEK 1 CONVENTION WARM UP!

I am heading to St. Petersburg, FL in November to attend the ISCA convention that they have annually. I attended my first one last year and it was so inspiring to meet a lot of artists who I didn't really know outside of the inter webs...if anyone is interested in caricature I'd definitely recommend checking out ISCA...it's worth a visit.

ANYWAYS...to help warm up for the convention I am going to be following drawing more and more celebs (via facebook groups: caricaturama showdown 3000 & traditional caricature art contest, which are also cool if any artist wants to check those out their are usually some really good pieces on their).

SO here is the first weeks subjects I only got to do one really finished one, and the others are sketches or quick warm ups of the subject.

This was a warm up of Obama...he's a politician

Here is a sketch of simone simons I did, she's a singer i think...

Here is a more finished one i did of Lil Wayne...

That's it for week 1 of my CONVENTION WARM UP DRAWINGS.

Next week I will be posting more...i know...you can't wait that long...well too bad. later blog.

Transit Folk

Here is a new thing I've been trying out in my sketchbook. I call it transit folks and it's just a collage of people i see during my rides on the public transit system. I sketch them out in random lead pencils and traced over with illustration pens and sharpie for the darker outlines and black fill. Let me know what you guys think.

Will Ferrell

My take on Will Ferrell...Had some slow time at work today and made this. I am also working on a full painted piece that will have an All Star type cast of SNL and Mr. Ferrell will be on that as well.

New live work

Here are a few sketches from work I did yesterday. It's been different as an artist at my job lately. Not having artists who work hard at the craft and inspire has kind of put me in a funk. Now I'm one of the older artists who work there and so I'm trying really hard to kind of push them in the right direction and help them get better...if they want too....anyways I got off track...take a look at these sketches, they were really fun to do and the guests were very fun to talk with and had a good laugh at the sketch when it was done.... which is worth more to me than what little I get for doing this...:D ENJOY

Wayne Rooney

Here is a quick caricature of Manchester United's (hopefully) WAYNE ROONEY. Still one of my favorite strikers...

New hire

This is one of our new hires at work. She was nice enough to pose for a picture.

OddFutureWolfGangDontGiveAFuckLoiterSquadFreeEarlMobbin'

So it's no secret my passion the past few years has been learning extreme exaggeration from great artists I have met in my job as a caricature artist. This is my first venture into studio quality caricature. The group is OFWGKTA, a group of wild punk rock/rapper/skater/photographer/singer/racist/pothead/etc.... kids that in my mind are like a breath of fresh fucking air in a genre of music that lacks creativity... If you like hip hop I think you definitely need to give them a listen...anyways that's besides the point....
This piece is 17x20 done in acrylics....

It will be on display at the ONTARIO ART WALK SATURDAY THE 18th!!! (they got a facebook page)
More art by TESTING OUR ABILITIES WIll Also BE ON DISPLAY!! (We got a facebook page)

ONTARIO ART WALK !!

Hi...I promised new art and now I deliver! This is a piece I call Tokka modeled after a pet turtle. I hardly paint but I found it to be really fun. It's 10x10 on canvas, with acrylics.

I was really pleased with the color scheme how it turned out. Hope you like it. This will be featured at the ONTARIO ART WALK SATURDAY the 18th, along with a lot of other great pieces from TESTING OUR ABILITIES (click here to see more great artwork)

Blockage

Dear Blog,

Whatsup? I haven't seen you in awhile. How do you like this blue font I'm typing in?...I don't like it much either.

Okay, back to normal. So the past few months I have been busy with my job drawing caricatures. However I have found that with the increased pressure to make money I think my art and my confidence has regressed significantly. I face daily criticism from customers who don't understand the artistic side of likeness and caricature and I have been struggling to let their ignorance go by without saying anything. Things sure are changing at the work place and I know I'm not having fun anymore.

Because of this I have been putting more thought into the future. I have a goal in mind and a plan on how to get there. The great thing is that this goal will include producing projects I've had on my mind for at least 3-4 years...talk about LAG ARTISTS!!...that was wack...anyways FIRST

TESTING OUR ABILITIES will be FEATURED at the ONTARIO ART WALK MAY 18th..when I find out details of location and time I'll post that...I have 3 acrylic on canvas caricatures I'm working on at the moment and will be posting those as I finish.

Peace and much love to ya.

Some more live stuff

Here are a few of my favorite Live Drawings I've put together from my time drawing at my gig in Seaworld, SanDiego....Hope you enjoy.

The Election

I was really into the election season this year, and actually participated for the first time. I remember sitting in the kitchen and going over the props with my girlfriend and voting against her in every category to cancel her vote out....I take this really seriously.

So this was a piece for the Funny&Crazy Likeness fest group on Facebook. I placed second that week for this one...i really really like Mitt Romney on this one, his expression and soul less eyes i think capture him perfectly. Obama is an okay one...i think I've seen better Barack's so it's hard for me to judge my own.

KIMYE

So i decided to draw these two because apparently they are together and also I heard they are having a baby together...aren't celebrities just the best.
Marker and Artstix again.
This piece was featured at the TestingOurAbilities art show in November. Click here to check out the pics from the show.

Clooney

George Clooney in Chartpak marker and Artstix for CS3000 group on facebook.
I tried something a little different (everyone was posting these really really nice handsome ones, mine still came out handsome looking, but hey at least I tried) in order to get some of that smugness he has in his smile and with his eyes. I definitely could have made his eyes bigger, and even pushed those lashes to capture him more...but I try and push the exaggeration as best I can.

Live drawings!

Some new live sketches from the slow season at Seaworld.

i know you missed me

Hello to all the people out there in the interweb...
Haven't posted anything new in awhile, and I do have some new things to share. I attended my first ISCA Convention in November. TestingOurAbilities (http://www.facebook.com/#!/gonebeyondcreative) had their first art show that same month in Glendora...a few of my pieces were displayed, and of course the rest of the groups work on skateboards that was worked on for months...if you wanna peep the boards we painted check the link (http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.462038587162827.110591.290947060938648&type=3)

Hope to do more daily stuff and design a header for this blog, make it looked a lil more swagged out....anyway...let the post fest begin.

peace out,
MarQues
